Education

B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Villanova University, 2008
M.S. Candidate, Mechanical Engineering, Villanova University, expected 2012

Experience

Mr. Howren joined MR&D in March of 2008 as an intern and accepted a full-time position as a Research Engineer after graduating in May of 2008. Since joining MR&D as a full-time engineer, Dan has been involved in designing 3D S-2 glass fiber preform and in calculating the composite properties of the 3D S-2 glass reinforced epoxy matrix composites for ballistic armor applications. As part of this effort, Dan has also utilized TexGen freeware via Python code to obtain solid model images of the 3D S-2 glass fiber preforms.

Dan has also been involved in performing thermal and structural analyses on carbon-carbon composite exit cones, designed with strengthened inter-laminar properties, in an effort to determine the adverse effects of the decreased in-plane strength of interlaminar reinforced preforms. More recently, Dan has been involved with an Air Force effort investigating the feasibility of utilizing structurally integrated thermal protection system materials to decrease the weight of hypersonic trans-atmospheric cruise vehicles.
